ZTBL Loses Loan Records Worth Rs 11.48 Billion
he remaining files appear to have gone missing over time without proper documentation.
ISLAMABAD: A major financial irregularity has surfaced as the Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) has lost records of agricultural loans worth over Rs 11.48 billion.
According to reports, 22,000 loan files have gone missing, raising serious concerns about transparency and accountability within the institution.
During a recent meeting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), audit officials revealed that 11,400 files, containing loan details amounting to Rs 11.48 billion, are currently untraceable. Initially, the bank had a total of 22,000 such files.
ZTBL officials informed the committee that around 5,000 files were destroyed during the nationwide unrest following the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in 2007. The remaining files appear to have gone missing over time without proper documentation.

ZTBL President stated that 790 loan files could not be traced despite efforts, while confirming the destruction of 5,000 files during the 2007 incidents.
The disappearance of these crucial records raises questions about how the bank will recover the outstanding loans, who the borrowers were, and what measures are being taken to retrieve or reconstruct the data.
The PAC has demanded a thorough investigation and accountability for the missing records and the massive financial loss to the national exchequer.
