Zil Hajj Moon Not Sighted in Pakistan; Eid ul Azha to Be Celebrated on June 7

Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committees also convened in their respective cities but reported no sightings of the new moon.

ISLAMABAD: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced on Tuesday that the crescent for the Islamic month of Zil Hajj was not sighted anywhere in Pakistan. As a result, the first day of Zil Hajj will be observed on Thursday, May 29, and Eid ul Azha will be celebrated across the country on Saturday, June 7.

The official announcement was made by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, after the moon sighting meeting concluded without any confirmed reports of the crescent’s visibility. The meeting was attended by representatives from SUPARCO, the Pakistan Navy, and the Meteorological Department.

Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committees also convened in their respective cities but reported no sightings of the new moon.

According to the Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), the new moon’s age on May 27 was approximately 11 hours, making its visibility nearly impossible. SUPARCO experts noted that the crescent is more likely to be visible tomorrow, leading to the start of Zil Hajj on May 29.
