Zero Tolerance for Sugar Hoarding and Overpricing, Says Price Control Department Spokesperson

In Lahore Division, actions were taken against 162 profiteers, with 5 arrests made.

Lahore — The Price Control and Commodities Management Department has intensified its crackdown on profiteering and hoarding of sugar across Punjab, declaring a policy of zero tolerance.

According to the department’s spokesperson, actions were taken against 986 shopkeepers in the past 24 hours for overcharging on sugar. 73 individuals were arrested, 22 FIRs were registered, and 913 violators were fined across the province.

To date, enforcement operations have been conducted against 25,947 individuals, resulting in 1,704 arrests and 265 FIRs since the campaign began.

In Lahore Division, actions were taken against 162 profiteers, with 5 arrests made.
In Gujranwala Division, 317 shopkeepers were penalized, while 129 were fined in Faisalabad for violating official sugar rates.
In Sahiwal, 13 actions were taken; 22 in Sargodha, and 74 in Rawalpindi Division.
In Bahawalpur, 102 violators were targeted; 59 in Dera Ghazi Khan, and 108 in Multan Division.

The spokesperson emphasized that the crackdown against those artificially inflating sugar prices and creating artificial shortages has been accelerated.
