Zardari & Naqvi Decline Salaries Amid Economic Challenges
Naqvi emphasized his commitment to public service, especially during these challenging times.
Islamabad: In a notable display of solidarity with the economic struggles facing Pakistan, President Asif Ali Zardari and Interior and Anti-Narcotics Minister Mohsin Naqvi have both decided to forego their salaries.
President Zardari, also the co-chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), made the announcement on Tuesday, citing the economic challenges confronting the nation. In a statement released by the Presidency, it was revealed that Zardari has opted not to receive his salary and perks as president to prevent overburdening the national exchequer.
This decision by Zardari comes shortly after he took oath as the 14th president of Pakistan in a ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad. Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa administered the oath to Zardari in the presence of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, outgoing president Arif Alvi, top military officials, governors, chief ministers, and other dignitaries.
