Zardari Meets UN Chief in Doha, Calls for Kashmir Resolution and Global Cooperation
President Zardari welcomed the Doha Declaration as a positive step towards global poverty alleviation and social development.
Doha – President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, met with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in Doha, praising his continued support for Pakistan and leadership in addressing global challenges.
During the meeting, President Zardari emphasized the need for a just and lasting solution to the longstanding Kashmir dispute. Secretary-General Guterres lauded Pakistan’s role in promoting peace in the region and expressed solidarity with the country in its fight against terrorism.

President Zardari welcomed the Doha Declaration as a positive step towards global poverty alleviation and social development. He highlighted the success of Pakistan’s Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) as a model for promoting social inclusion and economic empowerment. He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for the UN’s central role in advancing global peace, justice, and prosperity, while highlighting Pakistan’s contributions to UN peacekeeping missions.
The meeting also addressed the Palestinian issue, with both leaders stressing the importance of the Palestinians’ right to self-determination and the establishment of a sovereign state within pre-1967 borders.
Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed concern over India’s actions regarding water resources, stating that India’s suspension of treaties and withholding river data had caused serious challenges and disasters in Pakistan.
The high-level talks reinforced Pakistan’s commitment to global peace, regional stability, and international cooperation while seeking continued UN support for key regional and humanitarian issues.
