YouTube Launches Voluntary Exit Program Amid Internal Reorganization

YouTube will operate through three product divisions, each reporting directly to Mohan.

ISLAMABAD: YouTube has introduced a “voluntary exit program” for its U.S.-based employees, offering severance packages as part of a broader internal restructuring. CEO Neal Mohan shared the news with staff in a memo on Wednesday, explaining the changes and the company’s new organizational structure.

Under the reorganization, YouTube will operate through three product divisions, each reporting directly to Mohan. The Subscription Products division will manage YouTube Music, YouTube Premium, and the company’s over-the-top (OTT) services. Viewer Products will oversee the main app, YouTube Kids, Learning, and Trust & Safety initiatives. The Creator & Community Products division will focus on supporting creators and improving engagement across the platform.

YouTube emphasized that the structural changes do not involve mandatory layoffs. The voluntary exit program is designed to give employees the option to leave with severance benefits, providing flexibility rather than enforcing job cuts. Specific terms of the severance packages have not been disclosed.

The announcement comes alongside Alphabet’s third-quarter earnings, which showed YouTube’s ad revenue reached $10.26 billion, a 15% increase from the previous year. The strong financial performance underscores the platform’s continued growth despite internal adjustments.

Industry analysts note that the reorganization aligns with Alphabet’s strategy to refine operations, empower teams, and adapt more quickly to evolving viewer and creator needs. YouTube plans to implement new strategies under the restructured divisions in the coming months, aiming to boost operational agility and long-term growth.
