YouTube Introduces Custom Thumbnails for Shorts Creators

YouTube Rolls Out Long-Awaited Custom Thumbnail Feature for Shorts

CALIFORNIA: (News Desk) – YouTube has introduced a long-awaited feature allowing eligible creators to upload custom thumbnails for their Shorts videos, responding to one of the platform’s most requested creator tools.

The feature is currently available to creators enrolled in the YouTube Partner Program, enabling them to select and upload their own thumbnail images instead of relying on automatically generated frames.

The update is expected to help creators make their Shorts more eye-catching, potentially improving visibility and encouraging higher viewer engagement.

In addition, YouTube has introduced the ability to edit thumbnails for already published Shorts through YouTube Studio on desktop, giving creators greater flexibility in managing their content.

Creators who are not part of the YouTube Partner Program will continue to have limited thumbnail options. On desktop, they can choose from three automatically suggested video frames, while mobile users can select any frame from their Shorts as the thumbnail.

YouTube said the custom thumbnail feature will be expanded gradually, with broader availability planned for more creators in the future.
