Young Man Dies of Suspected Cardiac Arrest While Playing Badminton in Hyderabad

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim.

Hyderabad, July 29, 2025 — A 25-year-old man tragically died of a suspected cardiac arrest while playing badminton during a routine game in Hyderabad, according to local media reports. The sudden incident has once again raised concerns over the growing number of heart-related fatalities among young individuals in India.

Eyewitnesses said the young man collapsed mid-game and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Despite swift attempts to revive him, he was declared dead upon arrival. While authorities have yet to release an official medical report, preliminary findings point to cardiac arrest as the likely cause of death.

The case comes just days after a similar tragedy in Punjab’s Firozpur district, where 34-year-old local cricketer Harjeet Singh collapsed and died shortly after hitting a six during a cricket match. Singh, who had shown no prior signs of illness, collapsed while walking back to the crease and never regained consciousness.

Growing Health Concerns Among Young Adults

These back-to-back incidents have reignited concerns over the increasing incidence of sudden cardiac arrests in young and seemingly healthy individuals—often triggered during or immediately after intense physical activity.

Cardiologists and health experts warn that many young people may unknowingly carry underlying heart conditions that go undetected due to lack of regular screening. “Sports and exercise are vital for good health, but they can act as triggers in individuals with hidden cardiac vulnerabilities,” said a Hyderabad-based cardiologist.

India has witnessed a sharp rise in such incidents in recent years, with several high-profile cases highlighting the urgent need for greater awareness around cardiovascular health. Experts are urging individuals, especially those involved in high-intensity physical activities, to undergo routine heart screenings and stress tests, even if they appear fit.

Calls for Preventive Measures and Awareness

Medical professionals recommend incorporating preventive check-ups into public health policy and encouraging awareness campaigns about recognizing warning signs of cardiac distress — such as dizziness, chest discomfort, or unexplained fatigue — which are often overlooked.

As investigations continue, it remains unclear whether an autopsy will be conducted in the Hyderabad case. Meanwhile, the family of the deceased has requested privacy as they mourn the sudden and shocking loss.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim.
