World Muslim Congress Urges UN Action On Kashmir

UN Must Intervene In Kashmir, World Muslim Congress Says

NEW YORK: (Web Desk) – World Muslim Congress has raised the alarm over what it described as “cultural genocide” in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, calling for urgent intervention by the United Nations Human Rights Council.

Delivering a statement at the 61st session of the UNHRC in Geneva, Altaf Hussain Wani, Chairman of KIIR and representative of the Congress, described the region as an “open-air prison” where occupation has led to systematic political erasure and suppression of culture. Speaking under Agenda Item 3, Wani highlighted the “catastrophic” human rights situation, including restrictions on free expression, assembly, and pervasive digital surveillance.

The statement outlined harassment of human rights defenders, arbitrary detentions, and extrajudicial violence. Thousands of political prisoners reportedly remain incarcerated for years without trial. Wani condemned Delhi’s “Seven Pillars” security doctrine, calling it a tool to militarize civilian life rather than ensure safety.

Evidence of alleged war crimes was also cited, including mass graves for victims of fake encounters, denial of last rites, and religious persecution of Muslims through home demolitions, restrictions on worship, and incitement of violence.

Wani emphasized that silence by the international community would equate to complicity, urging immediate UN intervention, unrestricted access for Special Procedures, and accountability for crimes against humanity. The World Muslim Congress urged the UNHRC to move beyond expressions of concern and take tangible measures to address what it described as an ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in the disputed territory.
