World Bank backs Punjab with $48m for better primary schools

This new funding will help more children enroll, learn, and succeed in their local schools

US-(Special Correspondent / Web Desk)- The World Bank has approved a substantial grant of $47.9 million to transform primary education in Punjab. This initiative is designed to give the youngest learners a stronger start by expanding early childhood education programmes. A key focus will be on identifying and re-enrolling children who have dropped out of school, ensuring they get a second chance at learning. Furthermore, the project recognises that great teachers are essential, so it will provide enhanced support and training for educators. This comprehensive approach aims to not just increase enrolment numbers but to genuinely improve literacy and educational outcomes for thousands of children across the province.

This latest approval continues the World Bank’s investment in Pakistan’s future. Just last June, a similar $100 million project was launched to benefit 250,000 students in Balochistan. These efforts are part of a broader, ongoing partnership to strengthen education at all levels, from primary schools to universities, all with the common goal of building a more skilled and educated population.
