WhatsApp Testing Two New Features to Improve User Experience

The second feature is designed to improve navigation in group chats.

ISLAMABAD: WhatsApp is introducing two new features aimed at making the platform more convenient and user-friendly. Both features are currently being tested in the beta version of the app for Android users.

1. AI Editing Tools for Status Updates

A new feature will allow users to edit their status updates using artificial intelligence.
These AI-powered tools—developed under Meta AI—will replace the current “Effects” label found in the filters section.

With these tools, users will be able to:

  • Modify images using AI
  • Add new objects to pictures
  • Remove backgrounds
  • Create animated versions of their images

This upgrade is expected to enhance creativity and make status updates more dynamic.

2. Easier Access to Group Chat History

The second feature is designed to improve navigation in group chats.

With this update, new members of a WhatsApp group will be able to view the group’s recent message history. They will have access to messages sent up to 24 hours before they joined the group, with a limit of 1,000 messages.

This means:

  • New members can catch up on important discussions
  • Group admins won’t need to manually forward previous messages
  • The feature will appear in the group admin’s permission settings

Both features are still in testing and will be rolled out publicly once finalized.
