New WhatsApp Feature Could Convert Voice Into Text Offline
ISLAMABAD: (News Desk) – WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new feature for Android that will allow users to dictate messages and send them as text instead of sharing voice recordings.
The feature has reportedly been spotted in WhatsApp Android beta version 2.26.37.8, although development is still underway and it has not yet been released to beta testers.
According to a technology report, WhatsApp plans to introduce a dedicated button within the chat bar. Once activated, users will be able to speak their message while a “listening” indicator appears on the screen.
After the speech is converted into text, users will be able to read through the message, make any necessary changes and then send the final version to their contacts.
The feature is expected to support individual conversations, group chats and channels. It is also reportedly being designed to function without an active internet connection.
Unlike a conventional voice message, the recipient will receive only the converted text rather than an audio recording.
The feature is believed to rely on language packs downloaded and stored on the device. This would allow WhatsApp to process speech directly on the phone and potentially provide voice-to-text messaging even when the user is offline.
However, WhatsApp has not announced an official release date for the feature. For now, the voice-to-text functionality remains under development for Android, and it is unclear when it will become available to the wider user base.
