Welfare, Development & Festivities Return to Punjab Under PML-N Government

Islamabad: Punjab is seeing a wave of transformative initiatives aimed at improving its infrastructure and welfare, as the province takes bold steps to shape the future of its 128 million people, over 65% of whom are under the age of 30. These projects, designed in alignment with the federal government’s economic policies, are providing hope for a brighter future for Punjab’s youth.

Under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Madam Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Punjab government is heavily investing in education and skills development, particularly focusing on emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, virtual reality, and green energy. This approach seeks to equip the next generation with the skills needed to excel in the global economy.

Key education initiatives in Punjab include the Early Childhood Education (ECE) program, the Chief Minister’s School Nutrition Program, and the provision of free milk to students in several districts. Additionally, the Punjab government has launched a special campaign to ensure access to education for out-of-school children and has introduced English language and character-building classes in schools to foster critical thinking and communication skills.

The Chief Minister’s Honhar Scholarships, worth Rs 25 billion, and the distribution of free laptops worth Rs 10 billion highlight the government’s commitment to empowering the youth. Through the CM Skills Development Program, students are being trained in fields such as cloud computing, cybersecurity, and game development, further enhancing their employability.

The Punjab government has also introduced innovative subject groups like health sciences, agriculture, and IT for matriculation examinations, while establishing modern EdTech schools in collaboration with the Punjab Education Foundation. These efforts are aimed at expanding career opportunities and improving the quality of education across the province.

Other key initiatives include the Public School Reorganization Programme (PSRP), which will create 70,000 jobs and save Rs. 40 billion, along with the establishment of 5,000 new classrooms and STEM labs in schools. The government has also implemented solar-powered charging stations in colleges and a pilot project of satellite internet in DPS Model Town Lahore, which will help bridge the digital divide.

Additionally, Punjab is gearing up for the launch of Pakistan’s first ‘Nawaz Sharif IT City’ in Lahore, which is expected to contribute significantly to the IT industry and exports. Global tech giants are already preparing to be part of this project, and a $50 million fund announced by Gobi Partners, a leading venture capital firm, will help boost the startup ecosystem in the province.

To further support the youth, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced plans to offer international scholarships for higher education and establish an education city within the IT city to attract top global universities. These efforts reflect Punjab’s commitment to the development of human resources and the overall socio-economic upliftment of the province.

As Punjab continues to invest in education, infrastructure, and technology, it is poised to play a key role in Pakistan’s economic transformation, with a particular focus on providing its young population with the skills and opportunities needed to thrive in the future.
