Water quality monitoring systems will installed 10 districts of Punjab,CM

Lahore_The Punjab government is working towards decreasing pollution in the environment. CM Punjab, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi led a meeting to discuss environment-friendly initiatives and measures to reduce the adverse effects of pollution in the province.
It was decided that air and water quality monitoring systems will be installed in 10 districts of Punjab with monitoring systems to be installed in Lahore, Sheikhupura, Multan, DG Khan, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Wahari and other cities. To help implement these measures World Bank will loan 200 million dollars to Punjab Development Project.
Some other important steps to make the environment better included the installation of air quality monitoring systems at 30 locations in Punjab and water quality monitoring stations at 15 locations. CM Punjab also mentioned that an environment friendly pilot project will be started in Lahore starting with 25 electric buses. Legislations will be enacted to control plastic use and manufacturing for environmental improvement.
“Single use” of plastic will be ensured to eliminate environmental pollution. He said that solar panels will be installed on the roofs of government buildings under “Energy Efficient Buildings” in the divisions. 6 district hospitals headquarters of Punjab have been transferred to solar energy.
There was mention of a green financing strategy being formulated in Punjab too. An environment endowment fund of 50 million dollars will be established under green financing. Inspection of devices that cause environmental pollution will also be included in VICS motor vehicles certification. Easy loans will be given to 6 industries under the green investment project.
These measures, when fully implemented, can really improve the quality of air and water gradually. Government’s initiatives to reduce pollution can be more effective if citizens are also educated alongside about the the necessity of a good environment for healthy living with reduced risk of diseases.
