Wasim Akram Calls Out ‘Muppets’ Over Criticism of Mohsin Naqvi

Pakistan is set to begin its Champions Trophy campaign on February 19

ISLAMABAD: Legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram has dismissed circulating rumors suggesting that he criticized Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi over the squad selection for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The former captain of the Pakistan cricket team was reportedly unimpressed by the 15-member squad for the upcoming tournament but denied taking a shot at PCB’s head honcho.

A post circulating on social media claimed that Wasim Akram had questioned Naqvi’s leadership and competence, asserting that the chosen squad was destined for failure in the tournament. However, Akram swiftly shut down the rumors, calling the reports false and misleading.

“Fake news regarding Mr. Naqvi. Stop lying, enough is enough, and please don’t believe these muppets,” the former captain wrote on X (formerly Twitter), making it clear that he never made such remarks.

The Pakistan Champions Trophy squad has been a major talking point, with some selections raising eyebrows among fans and analysts. The inclusion of Faheem Ashraf, Khushdil Shah, and Tayyab Tahir in place of Aamer Jamal and Irfan Khan Niazi has led to divided opinions within the cricketing fraternity.
