WAPDA initiates legal action against housing societies using its name unlawfully

Publicly disclaims any direct or indirect affiliation. which is authorized to use the name of WAPDA.

ISLAMABAD: Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) has initiated legal action against cooperative housing societies illegally using the name of Power Development Authority.

As per the issued statement, the Power Development Authority is approaching all legal forums, including Registrar Co-operative Housing Societies and FIA, to stop the process.

The housing societies, using WAPDA’s name unlawfully and illegally include Employees Cooperative Society, Islamabad, Employees Cooperative  Society Ltd, Multan, Employees Cooperative Society, Gujranwala, Employees Cooperative Society Ltd, Faisalabad, Employees Cooperative Society Ltd, Sargodha, Employees Cooperative  Society Ltd, Sheikhupura, Employees Cooperative Society Ltd, Kasur, Employees Cooperative Society Ltd, Peshawar,  Employees Cooperative Society Ltd, Quetta, Employees Society, Karachi, Workers and Officers Cooperative Society, Hyderabad, Employees Cooperative Society, KIP, Karachi, Employees Cooperative Society, (Southern Zone), WAPDA City Faisalabad and WAPDA City Gujranwala.

The statement said that WAPDA, a statutory body corporate established under the WAPDA Act, 1958, shall not have its association, affiliation, and association with any cooperative housing society except WAPDA Town Cooperative Housing Society (Phase I & II) located in Lahore.

Publicly disclaims any direct or indirect affiliation. which is authorized to use the name of WAPDA.

Thus, illegal and unlawful use of the registered name i.e. Power Development Authority, for other housing societies or projects, by any other body or person, amounts to gross misrepresentation.

Therefore, the Power Development Authority cannot be held responsible for the liabilities, if any, which may be incurred by the public, for investing in such rogue, illegal and illegal societies, the statement added.
