Ministry of Interior Explains Nationwide Mobile Phone Service Suspension for Security Reasons

Islamabad: Head of the Commonwealth Group of Observers underscores the importance of internet voting in the country’s upcoming general elections.

The Commonwealth Observers Group conducted visits to various polling stations in Islamabad, where international observers, journalists, and observers from abroad assessed the voting situation.

A 25-member delegation of the Commonwealth Observers Group visited polling stations across NA-47 Islamabad and expressed satisfaction with the transparency of the polling process.

Speaking to the media, the head of the Commonwealth Group of Observers stated that they are confident in the polling process for the general elections, noting that they had observed elections before the advent of internet access and emphasized the significance of internet voting.

The head of the Commonwealth Observers Group further stated that while internet access is not necessary for the voting process, there might be issues with internet shutdowns when sending the results.

It is worth noting that complaints were received about mobile phone and internet service disruptions in various cities, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar, and Karachi, before the commencement of polling during the general elections.

In response, the Ministry of Interior spokesperson stated that a decision was made to temporarily suspend mobile phone services nationwide due to recent terrorist incidents resulting in the loss of precious lives. Therefore, it is essential to maintain peace and security and take necessary precautions to address potential threats.
