Virat Kohli Surpasses 15,000 ODI Runs in Record
Tendulkar finished his illustrious ODI career with 18,426 runs
NEW DELHI: (Sports Desk) – India’s Virat Kohli on Sunday became only the second batter in history to surpass 15,000 runs in one-day internationals, joining compatriot and cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar in the elite club.
The 37-year-old Kohli reached the milestone with a boundary during the opening ODI against the West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram. He achieved the landmark in 303 innings, 74 innings fewer than Tendulkar, who needed 377 innings to reach 15,000 ODI runs.
Tendulkar finished his illustrious ODI career with 18,426 runs, while former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara is third on the all-time list with 14,234 runs.
Kohli, who now plays only ODI cricket after retiring from Test and T20I cricket, recently told broadcaster JioStar that the 2027 World Cup is expected to be his final appearance at the tournament.
The Indian star was part of the team that won the 2011 ODI World Cup under the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Kohli and Rohit Sharma both retired from T20 internationals after India won the 2024 T20 World Cup. A year earlier, India had lost the ODI World Cup final on home soil to Australia.
