Venezuela Vice President Assumes Duties, Demands Maduro’s Release
Explosions were reported in several areas of Caracas, with low-flying aircraft seen over the city.
Venezuela: Venezuela’s Vice President Delcy Rodríguez has assumed presidential responsibilities under a judicial order, following reports that President Nicolás Maduro has been detained by US forces.
Addressing a news conference, Rodríguez rejected statements by US President Donald Trump and demanded the immediate release of Nicolás Maduro. She declared that Maduro remains Venezuela’s only legitimate president and said the country would not become a colony of any foreign power. She also reaffirmed the government’s resolve to defend national sovereignty and natural resources.
According to Venezuelan officials, US military forces carried out strikes at multiple locations, including the capital Caracas, and reportedly detained President Maduro and his wife before transferring them to the United States. Explosions were reported in several areas of Caracas, with low-flying aircraft seen over the city.

US media outlets reported that the military action was ordered by President Donald Trump, adding that at least seven explosions were heard in the Venezuelan capital. The situation remains tense, with conflicting accounts and growing international concern over the developments.
