Usman Tariq Completes Assessment on Suspect Bowling Action

Usman Tariq is the latest in a long line of spinners who have been reported for illegal actions.

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Super League 2025 has thrown up plenty of talking points, and one of the more significant storylines now surrounds Quetta Gladiators’ spinner Usman Tariq, whose bowling action was recently reported for suspected illegality earlier in the season.

Following standard protocol, Usman Tariq has now undergone a biomechanical analysis of his action at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore, one of Pakistan’s ICC-accredited testing facilities. The test, conducted under controlled lab conditions, will determine whether his action complies with the 15-degree elbow extension limit permitted under ICC regulations.

Sources at the NCA have confirmed that the results are expected within 4–5 days, following a detailed frame-by-frame review of his deliveries, particularly the ones that drew attention from match officials during PSL fixtures. Until then, Tariq remains in limbo despite having no restrictions on appearing in a match for Quetta Gladiators.

The 27-year-old spinner, known for his unorthodox bowling action, was reported for an illegal action once again after his team’s fixture against Lahore Qalandars. Although he was free to bowl afterward, Quetta decided not to risk his participation after just two games.

Usman Tariq is the latest in a long line of spinners who have been reported for illegal actions. From Saeed Ajmal and Mohammad Hafeez to Shabbir Ahmed and Shoaib Malik, many have undergone testing to prove the legitimacy of their bowling styles.

For Usman Tariq, though, this test is about more than just clearing his name; it could define the next stage of his professional journey. The spinner has been steadily building a name for himself in Pakistan’s domestic scene, which could net him opportunities around the globe, all depending on the results of his tests.
