Users in Pakistan Face Disruptions While Using Unregistered VPN Services
Proton VPN Performance in Pakistan Becomes Unstable After Effective Use
ISLAMABAD: Internet users across Pakistan are facing difficulties using unregistered VPN services, including mobile and desktop applications as well as browser extensions.
According to details, a large number of users have reported that the popular virtual private network service Proton VPN has been intermittently stopping work in various parts of the country.
Users say the service sometimes restores connectivity, while at other times the connection is abruptly disconnected. This situation has raised concerns about online privacy and free access to the internet. On social media and online forums, users have described the issue as an “on and off” service and expressed serious concern.
Proton VPN is a Switzerland-based service known globally for digital privacy and protection against censorship. In the past, its protocol was considered effective in Pakistan; however, its performance has appeared unstable in recent days.

Experts suggest the issue may be linked to recent measures taken by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) against unregistered VPN services, including the use of Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) technology.
So far, authorities have not issued any official statement regarding a formal ban on Proton VPN. However, user experiences indicate the presence of practical restrictions on the service.
