US to Host Renewed Ukraine-Russia Peace Talks in Abu Dhabi on Nov 10-11
Envoy Steve Witkoff says delegations will discuss security guarantees, de-escalation and humanitarian steps as Washington tries to restart stalled negotiations before winter.
Abu Dhabi – (Special Correspondent/Web Desk) – Big news from Washington: US to host renewed Ukraine-Russia peace talks in Abu Dhabi on November 10 and 11. US envoy Steve Witkoff shared the plan on Monday.
Delegations from both countries will meet in the United Arab Emirates. The talks are meant to find a way to end Moscow’s war against Kyiv.
Witkoff said the agenda will cover post-war security agreements, de-escalation, humanitarian measures and ending the war.
A senior US official told Reuters that Witkoff and Jared Kushner will represent Washington. Kushner is US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and a lead negotiator in the peace effort.
The push comes as winter nears. The war keeps causing heavy damage in Ukraine, and there is little sign that either side can win on the battlefield.
Talks with Europe first
Before Abu Dhabi, US negotiators will hold working-level talks in Brussels this week. Officials from France, Germany, Britain, the European Union and Nato will take part.
They will focus on security guarantees for Ukraine, Europe’s future security setup and financial help for rebuilding Ukraine.
Why a deal is still hard
Moscow and Kyiv remain far apart. Russia wants Ukraine to give up land that Moscow says it has annexed. Ukraine refuses to hand over territory and wants strong guarantees against any new attack.
Russia also wants limits on Ukraine’s military and its future ties with Nato. Kyiv has pushed back on those demands.
Ukraine is also asking Western allies for firm assurances, including possible European-led security arrangements and continued military aid. What those guarantees will look like is still unclear.
How we got here
The last formal US-mediated three-way talks took place in February. Later that month, the United States and Israel launched a war against Iran, which disrupted further negotiations.
Witkoff and Kushner restarted contacts with Moscow and Kyiv in September, but there was no breakthrough. Russian President Vladimir Putin then agreed to a new round of talks after meeting Witkoff in St Petersburg two weeks ago.
Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022. It is now Europe’s largest war since World War Two.
The Abu Dhabi meeting will show whether this new US-led effort can narrow the gaps and build a path toward peace.
