US State Department Avoids Comment on Imran Khan’s Imprisonment

US Silence on Khan's Imprisonment Sparks Ongoing Debate

KARACHI: The US State Department has once again refrained from providing a direct response to questions surrounding the imprisonment of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan.

During a press briefing on Wednesday, US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce declined to address the issue, stating that she would not comment on “the internal frameworks of another country.” When asked by a journalist about whether US President Donald Trump would take action regarding Khan’s imprisonment, Bruce did not give a clear answer.

The journalist also raised concerns about the state of democracy and women’s rights in Pakistan, suggesting that Khan’s imprisonment had significantly impacted the country. Bruce, however, stated that the US government’s actions under President Trump’s leadership were focused on global issues and emphasized the country’s commitment to international relations without addressing the specific question.

This marks the second time in two weeks that the US State Department spokesperson has avoided commenting on the matter. On March 6, Bruce had similarly declined to give a direct response when asked about potential US support for Khan’s release.

The ongoing silence from the US government on Khan’s imprisonment continues to draw attention as many, including Khan’s supporters, are seeking a clearer stance from international leaders.
