US Shoots Down Iranian Drone Near USS Abraham Lincoln

US forces down Iranian drone near aircraft carrier as regional tensions rise ahead of planned Washington-Tehran talks this week meetings

Iranian drone – (Web Desk) – The US military has shot down an Iranian drone after it flew close to the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) in the Arabian Sea. According to foreign media reports, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said an American F-35 fighter jet intercepted and destroyed the Iranian Shahed-139 drone as a defensive measure while it was heading toward the carrier.

CENTCOM stated the action was taken to protect the ship and its crew, adding that no US personnel were injured and no military equipment was damaged. “The action was taken in self-defence to protect the carrier and those aboard,” CENTCOM said, without providing further operational details.

The incident occurred amid heightened regional tensions and comes ahead of planned talks between the United States and Iran later this week, as Washington maintains an increased military presence in the region.
