US Resumes Military Aid to Ukraine, Proposes 30-Day Ceasefire Amid Ongoing Conflict with Russia

US-Ukraine Deal Resumes Military Aid After Tense Trump-Zelensky Meeting

RIYADH: The United States has agreed to resume military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine after successful talks, marking a significant shift in US-Ukraine relations. The agreement includes a proposal for a 30-day ceasefire, which Ukraine has agreed to accept, pending approval from Russia.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized that the ceasefire proposal was now in Russia’s court, and hopes for a swift response from Moscow. The proposal aims to halt the fighting on the frontlines for 30 days, providing a window for peace negotiations. Rubio stressed the urgency of ending the war, which has caused significant loss of life and damage on both sides.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed support for the ceasefire proposal, which he described as a positive step toward peace. He stated that the ceasefire would provide time to prepare for long-term security and peace agreements. However, Russia’s stance on the proposal remains unclear. Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously rejected ceasefire offers, emphasizing Russia’s need for security assurances and territorial control.

Meanwhile, Moscow launched an air attack on Kyiv, possibly in response to a Ukrainian drone strike on Russia. The situation remains tense, with both sides continuing to engage in heavy combat.

The renewed US-Ukraine agreement follows a strained meeting between President Trump and Zelensky earlier in the year, where military aid and intelligence sharing were temporarily halted. However, Trump’s pivot toward a more conciliatory approach to Moscow has now led to the resumption of assistance.

As the diplomatic process continues, Ukraine’s military is facing pressure from Russian forces, particularly in the Kursk region, while Kyiv’s drone strike on Moscow demonstrates its ability to retaliate despite heavy losses.

The US and Ukraine are also discussing security guarantees, with European countries expressing willingness to contribute to peacekeeping efforts. The situation remains fluid, and both sides await Russia’s response to the proposed ceasefire.
