US Israel launch coordinated strikes on Iran

Joint US Israeli attacks rock Tehran spark regional alarm

TEHRAN (Web Desk) – The United States and Israel have launched coordinated military strikes on Iran, with multiple explosions reported across several Iranian cities, including the capital Tehran.

Iranian media reported at least three explosions in Tehran, with one blast heard in the eastern part of the city and two in northern areas, believed to be caused by missile strikes. Foreign news agencies said Israeli forces targeted Mehrabad Airport, while additional explosions were reported in Isfahan, Qom, Karaj, Kermanshah, Lorestan and Tabriz.

Iranian outlets further claimed that seven missiles landed near the Iranian presidential palace and close to the compound of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Reports said Khamenei was not in Tehran at the time and had been moved to a secure location.

According to foreign media, a US official stated that President Donald Trump was angered by Iran’s failure to reach an agreement on uranium enrichment, and that US strikes were continuing from both air and sea. An Israeli defence official said the operation had been planned months in advance, with the timing finalised weeks ago in coordination with Washington.

Following the attacks, Iran closed its airspace, while Iraq also suspended air traffic. Iranian authorities said preparations were underway for retaliation, warning that Tehran’s response would be “very harsh.” The head of Iran’s parliamentary national security committee said the continuation or end of the conflict was “no longer in the attackers’ control.”

Israel’s defence minister confirmed that preemptive strikes had been carried out against Iran, citing the need to neutralise threats to Israeli security. Iranian media also reported missile impacts near University Road and the Democratic Area in Tehran, with thick smoke seen rising over parts of the city.

In Israel, the Defence Ministry announced the closure of schools nationwide, instructed employees to work from home, banned public gatherings and confirmed that sirens were sounding in occupied Jerusalem.

Separately, foreign news agencies reported that US embassy staff in Qatar had been instructed to move to shelters until further notice. Several countries have also advised their citizens to leave Iran immediately amid fears of a wider regional escalation.
