US-Iran tensions rise after failed Pakistan talks
US threatens Iran blockade after nuclear talks collapse in Pakistan
TEHRAN: (Web Desk) – Shahram Irani dismissed threats by Donald Trump to impose a naval blockade on Iran as “absurd,” emphasizing that Iranian forces are closely tracking US military activity in the region. Iranian officials, including the Revolutionary Guards, warned that any hostile move in the Strait of Hormuz would provoke a severe response.
Tensions escalated after high-level talks between Tehran and Washington in Pakistan failed to produce an agreement to end the ongoing Middle East conflict. Following the breakdown, Trump stated he was unconcerned whether Iran returns to negotiations.
Shortly after, the United States announced plans to enforce a naval blockade targeting Iranian ports. According to US Central Command, the operation would affect vessels entering or leaving Iranian coastal areas, though transit through the Strait of Hormuz to non-Iranian ports would remain open.
Iran US negotiations collapse leaving region tense and uncertain
Iran has already tightened control over traffic in the strait, a critical route for global energy supplies, reportedly allowing passage mainly to allied nations. Meanwhile, both sides exchanged strong warnings, with Washington pledging to secure shipping routes and Tehran insisting it would resist any pressure.
The failed negotiations reportedly stalled over US demands for Iran to abandon its nuclear ambitions, which Iranian officials rejected. The situation has heightened fears of renewed conflict across the region.
Elsewhere, regional tensions remain high. Benjamin Netanyahu claimed Israeli forces had neutralized threats from Hezbollah, while Lebanon continues efforts to halt hostilities and rebuild war-affected areas.
