US Claims Links Between Afghan Nationals in America & Terror Groups
According to Gabbard, proper screening was not conducted at the time of their arrival.
WASHINGTON: The Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has revealed that around 2,000 Afghan nationals currently in the United States have direct or potential links to terrorist organizations.
In an interview with US media, Gabbard sharply criticised the slow and inadequate vetting process of Afghan nationals who entered the US during the Biden administration under Operation Allies Welcome. She stated that approximately 18,000 Afghan citizens were admitted to the country under the programme.
According to Gabbard, proper screening was not conducted at the time of their arrival. She said that US authorities are now closely reviewing every Afghan national who entered under the operation, with all relevant agencies actively involved in the reassessment process.

She disclosed that out of the 18,000 Afghans, about 2,000 individuals have been identified as having direct or possible connections to terrorist groups.
Gabbard further warned that ISIS and other extremist organisations continue to plan attacks on US soil and are actively seeking individuals inside the country who could facilitate such acts. “This is why we are taking this threat very seriously,” she said.
The intelligence chief added that the number of people entering the United States illegally has increased significantly over the past few years, raising further security concerns.
