United Nation – (Web Desk) – The United Nations Security Council has strongly condemned the suicide bombing at an imambargah in Islamabad, describing the attack as “heinous and cowardly.” The council said it was deeply disturbing that innocent people were targeted while offering prayers in a place of worship.
The tragic incident took place on February 6 at Imambargah Qasr-i-Khadijatul Kubra, located on the outskirts of the capital, during crowded Friday prayers. According to officials, at least 38 people lost their lives and more than 150 others were injured, with many shifted to nearby hospitals in serious condition.
In an official statement, UNSC President James Kariuki said the council denounced the attack in the strongest possible words, stressing that such brutal violence against worshippers cannot be justified and those responsible must be held accountable.
The council also expressed heartfelt condolences to the grieving families and extended its sympathy to the government and people of Pakistan, while wishing a quick and complete recovery to all those wounded in the attack.
Reaffirming its long-standing position, the UNSC said that “terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security”.
The statement further stated that UNSC members stressed the need to ensure accountability, underlining “the need to hold perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice”.
They urged all states to cooperate actively with Pakistan “in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions”.

Last week, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres had also strongly condemned the attack.
“The secretary general reiterates that attacks against civilians and places of worship are unacceptable,” his spokesperson said, emphasising that those responsible “must be identified and brought to justice”.
