Uncontained Forest Fire in Abbottabad Threatens Nearby Villages
Abbottabad-(Staff Reporter): A wildfire that erupted in the forests of Panghoora Dakhan Syedan, a village within the Namli Mera union council in Abbottabad’s Galyat region, has been raging uncontrollably for over 36 hours, causing extensive destruction.
The blaze, which began several days ago, has now spread across multiple kilometers, destroying trees worth millions of rupees that were planted as part of the Billion Tree Tsunami initiative. Fodder valued at hundreds of thousands of rupees, gathered for local livestock, has also been lost to the flames.
Firefighters from Rescue 1122 have struggled to reach the site due to limited road access, requiring them to hike on foot to battle the fire. Local villagers are joining the firefighting efforts in hopes of containing the spread.
The delayed response by the Forest and Wildlife departments has drawn public criticism, with many lamenting the loss of countless insects and animals feared to have perished. Concerns are growing that the fire could extend to nearby residential areas, posing a direct threat to lives and property.
Residents are appealing to the provincial government and district authorities for immediate action to control the fire. The extent of damage and the continuing danger highlight the urgent need for a rapid and coordinated response to limit further devastation.
