Ukraine Drone Strikes Destroy Over 40 Russian Aircraft, Including Strategic Bombers

The attack has sparked concerns over Russia's internal security and is being labeled a significant intelligence failure for Moscow.

Moscow: In one of the most significant drone operations of the ongoing conflict, Ukrainian forces have reportedly destroyed more than 40 Russian military aircraft in coordinated strikes on key airbases deep inside Russian territory. Among the destroyed aircraft are four TU-95 strategic bombers, critical to Russia’s nuclear-capable air fleet.

According to reports, the attacks primarily targeted the Olenya Airbase, where the TU-95 bombers were stationed. These aircraft are part of Russia’s strategic aviation assets and are capable of carrying nuclear payloads. Ukraine utilized FPV (First-Person View) drones, reportedly launched from trucks positioned near the targeted airfields.

The drone strikes extended across several Siberian locations, including Dyagilevo, Olenya, and Ivanovo. In addition to the TU-95s, other aircraft reportedly destroyed include TU-22M3 bombers and A-50 airborne early warning planes. The A-50s play a vital role in air surveillance and providing early warnings of incoming threats.

Sources claim that the drones may have been launched from within Russian territory, adding a complex dimension to the attack. One launch vehicle has been seized, and its driver detained, though it remains unclear if the individual was aware of the operation.

This assault, reportedly named Operation “Web”, is being described as Ukraine’s largest drone offensive to date and showcases its expanding capability to strike targets far inside Russia.
