UK Salmonella Outbreak Leaves One Dead, Hundreds Infected Over Imported Eggs
Manchester: (News Desk) – A Salmonella outbreak in the UK has infected hundreds of people and left one person dead, with health authorities investigating a possible link to imported eggs.
According to the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), 259 confirmed cases and one death were associated with an outbreak cluster as of August 25, 2026. Investigators believe imported eggs may be linked to the outbreak, although the source has not yet been confirmed.
Cases have been connected to food consumed at cafés, restaurants and takeaway outlets. Authorities are also investigating the outbreak alongside two other Salmonella clusters in England.
Health officials said Salmonella infection can cause diarrhoea, stomach cramps, vomiting and fever. In vulnerable individuals, the infection can lead to more serious complications, including sepsis.
The UKHSA has advised the public to maintain good food hygiene and ensure eggs are thoroughly cooked before consumption.
Despite the outbreak, health authorities stressed that the overall risk to the general public remains low. They also said there is currently no evidence that UK-produced eggs are affected.
