UK Opens Doors Wider for Gulf and Jordanian Travelers with Visa-Free Access
As the UK embraces this progressive visa policy, it not only fosters stronger diplomatic ties but also opens the door wider for cultural exchange
In a momentous decision, the United Kingdom is set to welcome citizens from several Arab nations with open arms, as it introduces visa-free entry starting February 22 next year. This groundbreaking policy extends a warm invitation to residents of Jordan and all Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
Under the forthcoming system, citizens of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Oman, Jordan, and Bahrain will no longer require traditional visas but can seamlessly enter the UK with an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). Already in use for Qatari residents since November 15, 2023, the ETA simplifies the entry process, eliminating the need for a visit visa.
The British government, in a statement, highlighted that the ETA system represents a significant stride towards a streamlined and accessible entry process. Tourists of all age groups can conveniently apply for the ETA, priced at £10, facilitating travel permissions for two years.
This strategic shift not only aims to enhance the ease of travel but is also aligned with the UK’s broader plan to digitize its border by 2025, emphasizing both border security and customer experience.
By reducing costs and simplifying visa requirements, the ETA scheme is poised to fortify business and tourism ties between the UK and these nations. The move is particularly significant as Gulf visitors have proven to be invaluable to the UK economy, with over 790,000 visitors contributing £2 billion during their stays in 2022.
