UAE announces early spring break for schools

UAE orders early spring break for schools amid security concerns

Dubai (Web Desk) – Authorities in the United Arab Emirates have announced an early spring break for all public and private educational institutions due to the prevailing regional security situation.

According to a joint statement issued by the UAE Ministry of Education and the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, schools and universities across the country will remain closed from March 9 to March 22.

Officials said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure in light of recent regional tensions and the security situation following Iran’s actions in the region.

Earlier, authorities had instructed educational institutions to shift to distance learning until March 6. Students will complete their online classes this weekend before beginning the newly announced spring break.

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority has issued directives to schools and universities to immediately implement the decision and ensure proper arrangements for students and staff.

The spring break will apply to both schools and higher education institutions throughout the country.

Regular academic activities are scheduled to resume on Monday, March 23.

Speaking at a media briefing, Saif Al Dhaheri, spokesperson for the National Crisis and Emergency Management Authority, said the safety of students remains the government’s top priority.

He added that authorities are ensuring students’ education continues without disruption, which is why remote learning was initially introduced and the spring break was later brought forward.

According to the official academic calendar for the 2025–2026 academic year, the spring break was originally scheduled to begin on March 16. However, due to emergency circumstances, authorities decided to move the holidays forward by one week.
