U19 Asia Cup kicks off: Malaysia chooses to bat first against Pakistan

The stage is set and the atmosphere is buzzing as the ACC U19 Asia Cup bowled off this morning, with Pakistan taking on Malaysia in the tournament’s opening clash. The inaugural match has opened in Lahore, where Malaysia won the toss and opted to field against a confident Pakistani side.

Meanwhile, Pakistan U19 team is eyeing a commanding start led by captain Farhan Yousaf. The green team entered the competition with momentum and a clear mission: start strong, stay clinical, and push deep into the knockout stages.

The squad features six players who competed in last year’s edition, bringing valuable continuity and experience. Vice-captain Usman Khan, last year’s standout left-hander with 101 runs, and fast-bowling spearhead Abdul Subhan, who claimed nine wickets previously, are expected to anchor Pakistan’s campaign.

Pakistan are drawn in Group A alongside Malaysia, arch-rivals India, and UAE. Their next challenge comes on 14 December against India, a fixture that always crackles with intensity, before rounding off group play on 16 December.

With the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals on 19 December, every session of cricket matters. Today’s opener offers Pakistan a key opportunity to set the tone, especially with Malaysia handing them first use of the wicket.

The crowd in Lahore has settled in, the players are in position, and the Asia Cup journey has begun. Pakistan will look to bat with purpose, bowl with fire, and field with the sharpness seen throughout their preparation.
