Two PhD Scholars Successfully Defend Research in Sociology at University of Sindh, Jamshoro

Jamshoro, August 22, 2025 – The Department of Sociology, University of Sindh, Jamshoro, proudly organized the PhD Open Defense Seminar of two scholars, Mr. Ameer Bakhish Mahar and Mr. Rahimdad Rind, at the Nelson Mandela Hall, Department of International Relations. The event reflected the vibrant academic and research culture of the university, drawing a large audience of faculty members, researchers, and students.

Both scholars carried out their doctoral research under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Aijaz Ali Wassan, a distinguished professor of Sociology known for his scholarly guidance and contribution to the field.

Mr. Ameer Bakhish Mahar presented his dissertation on “Socio-Cultural Role of Electronic Media on Youth: A Case Study of District Hyderabad.” His research examined the deep impact of electronic media – including television, radio, and social media – on the values, behavior, cultural ties, and social relationships of youth in Hyderabad.

Presiding over the session, Prof. Dr. Nanik Ram, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, praised both scholars and their supervisor, stating:
“The open defense presentations were of high academic quality. In particular, Mr. Ameer Mahar’s topic is highly relevant in today’s world, as electronic media plays a pivotal role in shaping the mindset of youth and the fabric of our society. Such research not only enriches academic knowledge but also offers new perspectives to address social challenges. The University of Sindh is proud of its scholars and their supervisor, Prof. Dr. Aijaz Ali Wassan.”

The seminar was also graced by Prof. Dr. Saima Shaikh, Chairperson, Department of Sociology, along with eminent academicians including Prof. Dr. Hamadullah Kakapoto, Prof. Dr. Ghazala Panhwar, Dr. Hameeda Narejo, Dr. Ameer Abro, Dr. Pasand Ali Khoso, Dr. Naiz Ali Bhutto, Dr. Shabana Tunio, and Dr. Saeeda Shah.

Special participation came from Prof. Dr. Naima Saeed, University of Karachi, who joined as an external expert. She appreciated the scholarly efforts of both candidates, emphasizing the importance of such research in broadening the scope of sociology and addressing contemporary social issues.

The successful defense was celebrated as a milestone achievement for both scholars and a testament to the University of Sindh’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and critical research in the social sciences.
