Turkish military plane crashes in Georgia with 20 on board; international search and rescue efforts are underway.

Turkish  – (Special Correspondent / Web Desk) – A Turkish military cargo plane has crashed in the country of Georgia. The aircraft was on its way back to Turkey after a flight from Azerbaijan. Turkey’s Defense Ministry confirmed the tragic event, noting there were 20 people on the plane, including the flight crew.

International search and rescue teams are now working together. Turkish officials are coordinating closely with authorities in Georgia to locate the crash site and find any survivors.

According to the ministry’s statement, the C-130 plane went down near the border between Georgia and Azerbaijan. They confirmed the number of personnel who were on the flight.

Disturbing videos shared in media reports appear to show the plane falling from the sky. The footage shows a large plume of black smoke rising after the aircraft hit the ground. Other clips said to be from the area show the burned wreckage of the plane.

Out of respect for the victims and their families, Turkey’s defense ministry has asked news outlets not to share images from the crash.

Turkey’s president expressed his deep sadness, referring to those lost as “martyrs.” He confirmed that the country is working with Georgia to investigate the crash site. The president of Azerbaijan also shared his condolences for the loss.

Turkey’s foreign minister spoke with Georgia’s foreign minister by phone. They discussed the ongoing efforts in the search and rescue operation.

Officials in Georgia confirmed the crash happened in the Sighnaghi area. The plane was found roughly five kilometers from the border with Azerbaijan.

The Georgian air traffic control service reported that the plane vanished from radar shortly after it entered their airspace. The crew did not send any emergency signal before the crash. The control center was later alerted about the accident by emergency services on the ground.

The airport in Ganja, Azerbaijan, where the flight began, was notified about the incident. Turkish authorities were also immediately informed.

The C-130 Hercules is a widely used military transport aircraft built by the American company Lockheed Martin.
