TTAP Demands Respect for Mandate, Rejects Authoritarianism

TTAP Leaders Criticise Rulers, Call for Democratic Norms

ISLMABAD (Web Desk) – Leaders of Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP) on Sunday launched strong criticism of the country’s leadership, urging respect for the people’s mandate and an end to what they termed authoritarian governance.

Speaking at a media interaction in Model Town, Lahore, TTAP leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas thanked supporters who welcomed the delegation on January 8, saying the reception reflected Punjab’s inclusive and generous spirit. He remarked that while Punjab was known for its beauty and warmth, its rulers must also demonstrate large-heartedness by upholding democratic principles, accusing the current leadership of falling short.

Addressing the gathering, Mahmood Khan Achakzai praised PTI workers, leaders, and MPAs for remaining steadfast over three days despite alleged violence, harassment, and abductions. He said history would emerge from Lahore, stressing that the movement was peaceful, had no personal vendettas, and was not aimed at seizing power by force.

Achakzai said no democracy could function where an entire political party was deprived of its mandate, adding that nations progressed only when public opinion was respected. He warned that Pakistan’s continued struggle between democratic and undemocratic forces was weakening state institutions. Condemning terrorism, he renewed calls for a judicial commission into the events of May 9 and questioned the lack of accountability, also highlighting alleged constitutional violations, including his own unnotified status as opposition leader.
