Trump Says Russia Wants to End War with Ukraine

Trump’s aides are scheduled to meet Ukrainian negotiators in Miami today to continue peace discussions.

Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, went well.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said it is too early to predict the outcome of the discussions.

Trump claimed that President Putin wants to end the war with Ukraine. He also said that if he had been president at the time, the Russia-Ukraine conflict would never have started and Ukraine would have retained 100 percent of its territory.

Trump’s aides are scheduled to meet Ukrainian negotiators in Miami today to continue peace discussions.

The previous day, Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner held an almost five-hour-long meeting with President Putin in Moscow.

Following the meeting, Putin’s foreign policy advisor Yury Ushakov said that while some points were agreed upon, there were issues where consensus could not be reached. Overall, he described the talks as productive.

Ushakov added that no agreement has been reached yet between Russia and the U.S. on regional issues, and no meeting between the two presidents has been scheduled.
