WASHINGTON: (Web Desk) – Donald Trump announced a major escalation in tensions with Iran, stating that the United States will begin an immediate naval blockade of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. In a social media statement, he warned that any hostile action against US vessels would be met with force, adding that American forces will begin clearing mines from the waterway.
Trump accused Iran of restricting free passage through the strait and engaging in what he described as “global extortion” by charging tolls to ships. He emphasized that any vessel paying such tolls would not be guaranteed safe passage, signaling a stricter enforcement stance by the US and its allies.
“Deal or No Deal, I Don’t Care”, Trump on Iran-US talks in Islamabad
The president claimed that Iran had previously committed to keeping the route open but failed to follow through, causing widespread concern among global economies dependent on the critical shipping lane. He further alleged that Iran possesses knowledge of hidden mines in the area, increasing fears about maritime security.
Trump also made strong claims regarding Iran’s military condition, asserting that much of its naval and air capabilities had been neutralized. He referenced Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and suggested that Iran’s leadership is under severe pressure amid the crisis.
Discussing diplomatic efforts, Trump mentioned recent talks held in Islamabad, which he described as constructive but inconclusive on Iran’s nuclear program. He said he was briefed by senior officials including JD Vance, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner. Pakistani leadership, including Asim Munir and Shehbaz Sharif, were praised for their role in facilitating discussions.
Despite some progress, Trump stressed that the core issue—Iran’s nuclear ambitions—remains unresolved. He reiterated his long-standing position that Iran must never acquire nuclear weapons, warning that military options remain on the table if diplomacy fails.
