Trump Hints at Possible End to Russia-Ukraine War After “Productive” Talks with Putin

Putin Sends Messages to Trump Through US Envoy, Biden-Putin Call in the Works

Washington – Former US President Donald Trump has expressed optimism about the possibility of ending the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, following what he described as “very good and productive” discussions between US officials and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that he believes there is a “very good chance” the war could finally come to an end. He revealed that during the discussions, he specifically requested that President Putin spare the lives of “completely surrounded” Ukrainian troops. Trump appeared to be referring to Ukrainian forces encircled in the Kursk region, marking their only remaining position on Russian territory.

Trump’s statement sparked immediate attention, but White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt later clarified that Trump had not directly spoken with Putin. Instead, she confirmed that US envoy Steve Witkoff had met with Putin in Moscow on Thursday night. According to a source familiar with the matter, Witkoff’s meeting lasted for several hours and provided an opportunity for the Kremlin to send “signals” to Trump.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov further explained that Putin had used the meeting with Witkoff to communicate important messages to the former US president. Peskov added that the two nations were in talks to schedule a direct phone call between Presidents Biden and Putin, pending a debrief from Witkoff to Trump.

Trump has long been vocal about his desire for a swift ceasefire between Moscow and Kyiv to prevent the war from escalating further. He has repeatedly warned that the ongoing conflict could spiral into World War Three, emphasizing the immense loss of life on both sides.
