Trump Declares Himself the “Father of IVF” During Women’s Town Hall

Amidst criticism from Harris, Trump uses humor to bolster support among women voters ahead of the Nov 5 election.

US-(Web Desk): During a town hall event for women voters on Wednesday, Donald Trump referred to himself as the “father of IVF” while discussing reproductive issues, aiming to win over this crucial voting demographic. With the November 5 U.S. election approaching, Trump is trailing Democrat Kamala Harris among women voters and was eager to engage in the topic at an all-female event hosted by Fox News in Georgia, a key battleground state.

“I want to talk about IVF. I’m the father of IVF, so I want to hear this question,” Trump stated. In response to concerns raised by some women about potential restrictions on fertility treatments, he highlighted his party’s support for in vitro fertilization (IVF), despite some conservative factions opposing the procedure.

Recently, Senate Republicans blocked Democratic initiatives aimed at protecting IVF access, with some arguing that such protections were unnecessary. “We really are the party for IVF,” Trump declared, asserting that his party is more supportive of fertilization efforts than Democrats.

The issue gained prominence after a conservative ruling from the Alabama Supreme Court in February declared embryos as children, creating legal ambiguities regarding their storage and use. This decision has led some IVF patients to contemplate relocating their frozen embryos out of the state.

Trump’s campaign later clarified that his “father of IVF” comment was made in jest, emphasizing his strong support for accessible fertility treatments. Spokesperson Karoline Leavitt explained that it was a light-hearted remark in response to an inquiry about IVF.

In contrast, Harris cautioned against getting sidetracked by Trump’s choice of words, emphasizing that his actions have been detrimental to women and families in America concerning reproductive rights. According to a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll, 49% of registered women voters support Harris, while 40% back Trump, who has faced challenges in gaining the trust of voters on these issues.

During the town hall, Trump reverted to his characteristic dark rhetoric, warning of an “enemy from within” and labeling his opponents as “evil.” He reiterated a previous claim that his political adversaries pose a significant threat, stating, “They’re really very different, and it is the enemy from within, and they’re dangerous.” This remark followed a Fox host’s mention of Harris criticizing Trump’s earlier comments, where he suggested using the National Guard or military against “radical-left lunatics.”

While Trump expressed interest in deploying military forces, he currently holds no authority to do so, having previously shown interest in using military resources to manage civilian protests during his presidency.
