Trump Claims Jewish Americans May Affect Election Outcome
Comments Made at Israeli-American Council Summit

America-During a speech at the Israeli-American Council National Summit in Washington, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump suggested that Jewish-American voters could bear some responsibility if he loses the upcoming election to Vice President Kamala Harris.
Trump’s Warning for Israel’s Future
Trump expressed concern about trailing Harris among Jewish voters, claiming that if she wins, Israel could cease to exist within two years. He stated, “If I don’t win this election, the Jewish people would really have a lot to do with that if it happens, because if 40%, I mean, 60% of the people are voting for the enemy.”
Polling Data Discrepancies
Trump referenced a poll indicating that Harris has significant support among American Jews, though it was unclear which poll he cited. A recent Pew Research survey actually shows Harris leading Trump by 65% to 34%. Trump noted his struggle to gain support from Jewish voters in the 2016 and 2020 elections.
Strategic Focus on Jewish Voters
The Trump campaign is actively seeking to appeal to Jewish voters in key battleground states, recognizing that a small shift in their votes could impact the election outcome. For example, in Pennsylvania, where over 400,000 Jewish individuals reside, Biden won by a narrow margin in 2020.
Criticism from Advocacy Groups
Jonathan Greenblatt, national director of the Anti-Defamation League, stated that preemptively blaming Jewish voters for an election loss does nothing to help the community. In contrast, a spokesperson for the Harris campaign condemned Trump’s previous associations with anti-Semites, asserting that his election loss would be due to a broad coalition of voters rejecting his divisive rhetoric.
Trump’s Response to Controversy
While Trump defended his stance by highlighting his Jewish son-in-law, he did not address a recent CNN report regarding North Carolina gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson, who allegedly made controversial comments about race and slavery.
