Trump Applauds Starmer for Criticising Hamas during UK-US Press Briefing
Starmer had stated that Hamas is not interested in peace nor in a ceasefire — an assessment that Trump has now endorsed.
LONDON – US President Donald Trump has publicly praised British Prime Minister Keir Starmer after Starmer condemned Hamas, calling the group ineligible for participation in future Palestinian governance due to its opposition to peace and refusal to support a ceasefire.
During recent talks between the two leaders, Trump acknowledged Starmer’s position on Hamas as a “terrorist organisation” and applauded the strength of his language.
Starmer had stated that Hamas is not interested in peace nor in a ceasefire — an assessment that Trump has now endorsed.
The exchange comes amid broader discussions between the US and UK over the Gaza war, recognition of Palestine, and humanitarian concerns.

Some political commentators view Trump’s approval as part of diplomatic signalling — reaffirming alignment on counterterrorism and shared concern over regional stability. However, others warn that tougher rhetoric may complicate ongoing diplomatic efforts.
