Trump and Harris Rally in Pennsylvania, Both Declare Confidence in Close Election
Trump and Harris Claim Victory Prospects as They Rally Across Pennsylvania on Election’s Eve
US-(Special Correspondent): Donald Trump and Kamala Harris each expressed confidence in winning as they made final campaign appearances across Pennsylvania on Monday, the last day before the intensely close U.S. presidential election.
This race has witnessed dramatic twists, including two assassination attempts and a felony conviction for former President Trump, as well as Democratic Vice President Harris stepping up as the party’s presidential candidate after President Joe Biden, 81, withdrew his bid under intra-party pressure. AdImpact reports that campaign spending has topped $2.6 billion since March, all aimed at swaying voter sentiment.
Despite the high stakes and campaign twists, polls indicate a neck-and-neck race between Trump, 78, and Harris, 60. Given the tight margins, it may take days to confirm the final winner. Trump has signaled that he may challenge any unfavorable result, similar to his approach in 2020.
Both candidates spent Monday rallying in Pennsylvania, a state with a significant Electoral College count among the seven key battleground states likely to decide the outcome. Trump addressed a large crowd in Pittsburgh, delivering his final campaign message and emphasizing economic themes, warning that a Harris administration would bring economic decline.
“We’re going to win Pennsylvania, and that’s going to be it,” Trump declared, later announcing an endorsement from podcaster Joe Rogan.
Meanwhile, in Allentown, Harris projected optimism, vowing to serve all Americans and appealing directly to the area’s Puerto Rican community, who recently expressed outrage over comments made at a Trump rally. She later canvassed neighborhoods in Reading and held a rally in Pittsburgh, where pop star Katy Perry performed. Harris’s day was set to end with a high-profile rally in Philadelphia.
“Tomorrow is Election Day, and we’re surging forward,” Harris said in Pittsburgh. “This is the time for a new generation of leadership in America… and make no mistake, we will win,” she declared to a cheering crowd.
The Harris campaign claims their voter outreach data shows a last-minute shift in favor of undecided voters and an increase in early turnout among their core supporters, including youth and minority groups. Democratic strategist Tom Bonier notes especially high early voting rates among Democratic-leaning groups, especially women, with no parallel surge seen among young men, a key demographic targeted by Trump’s campaign.
### Gender Divide in Voter Turnout
Trump’s team closely monitored early-voting trends, noting higher turnout among women, a demographic where Harris held a lead, per an October Reuters/Ipsos poll. To boost male turnout, Trump supporter Elon Musk urged, “Men must vote!” on his social media platform X.
Musk, along with other third-party groups supporting Trump, took on much of the campaign’s voter outreach, focusing on sporadic voters rather than undecideds. Musk’s campaign to encourage voting in Pennsylvania recently received judicial approval, despite a local prosecutor’s concerns that it resembled an illegal lottery.
In his campaign trail remarks, Trump reiterated pledges to “protect women” and to let states decide abortion laws after his Supreme Court appointment in 2022 overturned federal protections. In Reading, he also promised to prevent transgender athletes from participating in women’s sports, with supporters displaying pink “Women for Trump” signs.
One Trump campaign official was confident in securing North Carolina, Georgia, and Arizona, but noted that Trump still needs to win at least one Rust Belt battleground state—such as Michigan, Wisconsin, or Pennsylvania—to clinch victory.
Republicans were encouraged by early vote returns in Nevada and the turnout in hurricane-affected areas in North Carolina’s western counties. “The numbers indicate a Trump victory,” senior adviser Jason Miller said. “We feel very optimistic.”
### Claims of Election Fraud and Rebuttals
Trump, who continues to allege fraud in his 2020 loss, has laid the groundwork to dispute any unfavorable outcome this year. He’s vowed “retribution” against rivals if re-elected and has referred to Democrats as an “internal threat.”
In response, Harris’s legal advisors have assured that any attempts by Trump to contest the results will not prevail. “Voters choose the president, not Donald Trump,” said campaign legal advisor Dana Remus.
Trump made campaign stops in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Michigan on Monday, with plans to return to Palm Beach, Florida, to vote and await the results.
Harris’s final campaign day included five stops in Pennsylvania, overlapping with Trump’s stops in Reading and Pittsburgh, before a major rally outside the Philadelphia Museum of Art, featuring Lady Gaga, Ricky Martin, and Oprah Winfrey.
