Transport Fares Slashed Up to Rs190 on Key Routes Following Fuel Price Cuts
**Punjab Government Lowers Transport Fares Following Petrol, Diesel Price Cuts**
Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari has announced that transport fares across the province have been reduced in response to the recent drop in petrol and diesel prices.
The reductions range from Rs20 to Rs190, with the most notable decrease on the Lahore to Karachi route, where fares have been slashed by Rs190. Other notable fare cuts include Rs50 for Lahore to Peshawar and Rs20 for Rawalpindi.
Bukhari emphasized that Punjab is currently the only province adjusting transport fares in line with the fuel price decline. Updated fare lists have been displayed at bus terminals throughout the province to reflect these changes.
This is the fifth consecutive fare reduction tied to lower petrol prices, and the government is encouraging other provinces to adopt similar measures to alleviate travel costs for passengers.
Some specific fare reductions include:
– Lahore to Layyah: Rs100 reduction
– Lahore to Bahawalpur: Rs100 reduction
– Lahore to Multan: Rs200 reduction
– Lahore to Muzaffargarh: Rs250 reduction
– Lahore to Fort Abbas: Rs100 reduction
Long-distance routes such as Lahore to Karachi, Islamabad, Peshawar, and Quetta have seen reductions of Rs200, Rs80, Rs100, and Rs200, respectively.
This fare revision follows the government’s decision on September 30 to lower fuel prices. Petrol has been reduced by Rs2.7 per liter, now priced at Rs247.03 per liter, while high-speed diesel prices dropped by Rs3.40 per liter. Light diesel and kerosene oil prices also saw cuts of Rs1.30 and Rs3.57 per liter, respectively.
