Train Services from Quetta Remain Suspended for 21 Days
Train services from Quetta to various regions across the country have been suspended for the 21st consecutive day. Services to major cities like Peshawar and Karachi remain halted as work continues on a critical bridge that was damaged in a terrorist attack.
According to railway authorities, approximately 40% of the restoration work on the bridge, which was destroyed in August, has been completed. The bridge is expected to be fully operational by October 15. Officials noted that the repair efforts are being conducted in two shifts as directed by the chief executive officer of Pakistan Railways.
Despite facing resource constraints, Pakistan Railways is funding the restoration efforts using its own budget. Once the bridge receives the necessary security clearance, rail connectivity for Balochistan will be promptly reinstated.
The disruption in services follows coordinated terrorist attacks on August 26, which targeted civilians and government properties in multiple districts of Balochistan. Among the damaged infrastructure was a historic British-era bridge located between the Kolpur and Dozan railway stations in Bolan.
As a result of the attacks, train operations between Quetta and Sibi were suspended, affecting key services such as the Jaffar Express, Bolan Mail, and Chaman Passenger train.
