Traders Plan Nationwide Shutterdown on August 28
Kashif Chaudhry, President of the Traders Association, has announced a nationwide shutterdown strike for August 28, citing the government’s refusal to address key issues.
Chaudhry criticized the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for its ineffective negotiations over the past two months, stating that the traders will no longer engage in talks without tangible progress. The strike is in response to the government’s decision not to retract the controversial dost scheme and its failure to offer a feasible plan for revising agreements with Independent Power Producers (IPPs).
“We will not comply with the advance tax under the business-friendly scheme until it is abolished,” Chaudhry stated. He warned that if the government does not issue a notification by the evening of August 28, further negotiations will be halted.

Chaudhry noted that the strike has received broad support from traders, industrialists, political parties, and the general public. “The people and political parties are united with us against the government’s unjust policies,” he added.
The strike is anticipated to be a major display of solidarity from Pakistan’s business community, with millions expected to participate in protest against what they view as governmental mismanagement and economic abuse.
