High-Level Security Meeting Reviews KP Situation in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: (Web Desk) – A high-level security meeting was convened at Corps Headquarters Peshawar to assess the prevailing law and order situation across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The meeting was attended by Federal Interior Minister, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, National Security Advisor, Corps Commander Peshawar, along with senior civil and military leadership.

Participants paid tribute to civilians and security personnel who lost their lives in recent terrorist incidents and reaffirmed the resolve to eliminate terrorism from the province. A key decision taken during the meeting was to host Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches in Peshawar this year, reflecting renewed confidence in the city’s security environment.

The meeting approved the immediate implementation of a governance and administrative model in Malakand Division under the supervision of provincial police and other relevant institutions. This model will later be introduced in phases across terrorism-affected districts, particularly Khyber, Orakzai and Kurram.

To ensure effective oversight, a special sub-committee was established under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister. The committee will monitor development initiatives and review security operations through monthly meetings. Its members will include elected representatives, Corps Commander Peshawar, Chief Secretary, Inspector General of Police, provincial officials and representatives of federal institutions.

The sub-committee will oversee governance reforms and development projects, focus on generating alternative employment opportunities for local residents and ensure sustainable livelihoods. It will also work towards resolving issues faced by temporarily displaced persons and strengthening coordination between the federal and provincial governments on counterterrorism policies.

The meeting agreed that long-term employment opportunities for youth are essential to counter extremist tendencies and promote positive engagement. Authorities also resolved to continue strict action against illegal SIM cards, explosives and extortion networks, while accelerating the phased profiling of non-custom-paid vehicles.
