Third MPOX Case in Pakistan: Passenger from Jeddah Hospitalized
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department has reported the third case of mpox in the country, detected in a 51-year-old man who recently returned from overseas. Mpox is a virus related to monkeypox.
The patient, a resident of Peshawar, was identified during routine airport screening and was promptly admitted to the Police Services Hospital after showing symptoms of the virus. Dr. Irshad, the director of public health for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stated that the patient’s condition is stable and he is currently receiving appropriate treatment.

This incident marks the third confirmed mpox case in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this year, heightening concerns about the virus’s potential spread in the area. The provincial Health Department is actively monitoring the situation.
A spokesperson from the Ministry of Health revealed that the patient had recently traveled from the Gulf countries. The ministry has begun contact tracing to identify and screen individuals who may have been exposed to the infected person.
He noted that following the recent emergency in Pakistan, the number of mpox cases has risen to three, with Border Health Services staff actively working at all airports.

Dr. Mukhtar Bharath, the national health coordinator, highlighted that Pakistan has put in place a comprehensive strategy to address the mpox outbreak. This strategy is backed by a strong global disease surveillance system. In Karachi, a passenger arriving from Jeddah on a private airline has been suspected of having mpox. The individual showed symptoms associated with the virus upon arrival and was promptly taken to the Sindh Government Hospital in Nipa for further medical assessment.
